About the Halau
Home
Mother halau of Maryland is the only east coast halau (hula school) to compete at Olympic Style:
* World hula invitational, Honolulu, 1992
* Hula 'O Na Keiki, Maui, 1993 and 1995
* Ka Hula Le'a, Big Island (Hawaii), 1996, 1997, 2000 (the only halau from the mainland
Christian 'Koapaka' Gutierrez of the Colorado rootlet won third place in the Keiki (child solo) division, and Kumu
Keolapua Nakamura received the Judges' trophy for excellence.
Halau Accomplishments:
- One of only 13 mainland halau (hula school) featured together with mother halau of Maryland by
the prestigious on world hula in June 2003 in Honolulu. The exhibit
has traveled the world as we speak.
- Was invited together with mother halau to be featured in a book being written by Robert Cazimero on hula
halau.
- Participated in the Asian-Pacific celebrations of the following military installations:
- Peterson Air Force Base, 2001, 2002
- Air Force Academy Celebrations, 2001, 2002
- Fort Carson Installation and Evans Hospital, 2003
- F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, 2004
- Provides entertainment to various senior residences in Colorado Springs including NBA Village at Skyline,
The Broadmoor Court, Winslow Court, Garden of the Gods Care Center etc.
